Interview with F. W. ("Pin") Fowler concerning his experiences as owner and operator of C. R. Fowler Hardware and mayor of Krum, Texas. Fowler discusses his family background, the origins of the Denton County Library, his school experiences in Krum, his experiences in Dallas during the Depression, his employment at his father's hardware store in Krum in 1933, and the effects of the Depression on Krum. He also talks about the effects of World War II on the hardware business, the phase-out of the farm implement business in 1958, his experiences with the appliance division of the store and its phase-out in 1965, his purchase of the store from his father in 1967, the shelf hardware stock, and the sale of the business in 1981. Fowler describes the clientele, the market area, the profit margin, and the financing of the store, as well as shares his views on farming in Krum, the decline in business activity in Krum during the 1940s, the incorporation of Krum and the election of himself as mayor in 1954, his efforts to develop Krum, his civic activities, and his impressions of Sam Rayburn, Lyndon Johnson, and Graham Purcell.
